Cayman team heads to Argentina in exciting start to year for golf

Aaron Jarvis will be looking for a repeat of his Latin American golf glory in Argentina.

Cayman is looking forward to an exciting year for golf in 2025.

There is plenty to look forward to in 2025 in golf in Cayman according to Cayman Islands Golf Association President, Daniel Fortune, both on an international level and at home, starting with the Latin American Amateur Championship which will be held at Pilar Golf Club outside of Buenos Aires in Argentina from January 16 to 19.

Last year’s LAAC saw Cayman have two players finish inside the top 5 in Justin Hastings and Andrew Jarvis and, along with the 2022 champion Aaron Jarvis, all three are back for another crack at taking the championship.

“Both Justin and Aaron have plenty of college golf experience in the US, so this is a big and exciting year for them both. Andrew’s game is consistently getting better, so we are very hopeful of another strong showing in 2025 from all three players.”

While Hastings and Aaron Jarvis will be leaving the college golf scene in 2025, Holly McLean will continue to fly the Cayman flag on the women’s side at the University of South Florida (having recently transferred from Oklahoma University) while representing Cayman in the summer at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship.

Closer to home, the Cayman golf season will see its first big event being the Caribbean Classic Qualifier in late January.

Winners in this event can go on to represent Cayman at the Caribbean Classic event itself in the Dominican Republic in early May. This will be followed by the President’s Trophy in February and the Island Championship in March.

April will see the first Cayman Islands Fourball Championship. “We are looking forward to another strong and exciting season of CIGA events and in particular the first edition of the Cayman Islands Fourball Championship which promises to bring something different for players to tackle” noted Fortune.

“As always, we couldn’t be in a position to do any of what we do without the invaluable support from our main sponsors Grant Thornton and the R&A and assistance from the volunteers that make up the committee of CIGA,” continued Fortune.

Further in the year and on an international level, we are looking forward to the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship which is slated for Barbados, the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship which is due to take place in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Golf Association Fourball Championship expected in Jamaica (venues are subject to change at the time of publishing).
