A man armed with a knife was arrested after attacking a worker at the Owen Roberts International Airport in the early hours of Friday morning, police said.
The 30-year-old man, of George Town, appeared in court Monday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and unlawful possession of a bulletproof vest.
Police said they received a report around 2:30am on Friday of a man behaving suspiciously outside the airport. When he was questioned by a member of staff about what he was doing there, the man attacked the worker with a knife, police said.
“The employee managed to disarm the man, however, during the altercation the worker sustained what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries,” the RCIPS wrote. “After being disarmed, the man fled the location.”
The suspect was later identified and located by police, and was arrested on suspicion of assault ABH and possession of an offensive weapon.
Following his arrest, police searched his residence, where they found a bulletproof vest, leading to the suspect being further charged for the unlawful possession of the ballistic vest contrary to the Firearms Act.
The man appeared in court Monday, when he was granted court bail to return on 25 Feb.
