It will be easier to get to Grand Cayman this winter than ever before, with JetBlue announcing it will offer direct service three times weekly between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Cayman starting 4 Dec.
The service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, making this the fifth new service addition to the Cayman Islands for the winter 2025 season. Other new direct flights for the high tourism season include Porter Airlines’ service between Toronto and Grand Cayman starting 16 Dec. and between Ottawa and Grand Cayman starting 19 Dec. In addition, starting 20 Dec., Delta Airlines will operate direct flights from Detroit and New York.
JetBlue will also continue to operate direct flights from Boston and New York this winter.
In early August, Spirit Airlines announced that it would commence direct flight service on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Cayman on 4 Dec.
However, Spirit Airlines sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganisation on 29 Aug. and although the airline said it would conduct business as usual, it remains to be seen if it will continue its plans for the route considering the announcement of JetBlue to offer similar service.
Cayman’s Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism Gary Rutty spoke about the significance of JetBlue’s announcement to resume the Fort Lauderdale route, which it first commenced in 2018.
“The addition of this returning JetBlue route represents a solid vote of confidence in the Cayman Islands and underscores our strength and appeal as a premier Caribbean destination,” he said.
“We are excited to welcome back this JetBlue service and look forward to sharing our warm hospitality with more visitors from Florida.”
As well as providing more flight options for residents of South Florida to visit the Cayman Islands, the JetBlue flights – along with American Airlines’ resumption of daily evening flights between Miami and Grand Cayman starting 6 Oct. – will allow for better connectivity for people travelling from other destinations.
