Less than two weeks after American Airlines announced it would resume the evening service from Miami to Grand Cayman on a 26-day trial basis, the airline announced on Wednesday that the flights will operate for six months, from 6 Oct. 2025 until 6 April 2026.

“We are proud to solidify our presence in Grand Cayman and reinforce our service offering to these wonderful islands,” said José María Giraldo, managing director of operations for Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and Central America at American Airlines, in a press release.

“This new route enhances connectivity for our customers through our Miami hub, providing seamless access to over 150 destinations across our global network.”

The American Airlines evening flight involves an Airbus A319 with a capacity for 128 passengers leaving Miami at 6:15pm, arriving in Grand Cayman at 7:05pm, staying overnight, and then leaving at 8:30am the next morning. This ‘overnight’ flight was a regular and popular part of American Airline’s service between Grand Cayman and Miami prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

By resuming this flight service for the winter season, American Airlines has increased its seat capacity between Miami and Grand Cayman by 34% compared to the 2024-25 winter season.

Cayman Islands Director of Tourism Rosa Harris said the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism was pleased with American’s decision to resume the third flight from Miami to Grand Cayman for the full winter season.

The route reintroduction follows a strategic push by Cayman stakeholders, who met with American Airlines Vice President of International Operations José Freig during the combined CAPA Airline Leader Summit—Americas and the GAD Americas Summit on Grand Cayman in April. In addition to the Department of Tourism, the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce and the Cayman Islands Tourism Association joined in appealing for the resumption of the evening route.

The daily evening service facilitates more connections through Miami without an overnight layover as well as giving residents more options when travelling to South Florida.

During the next winter season, American Airlines plans to operate eight daily flights from Grand Cayman to US cities, including Miami, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago, and weekly service to Philadelphia.
