Well-known attorney Charnjit S ‘Casey’ Gill passed away on Tuesday, 14 Oct. at the age of 81.
Gill was born in Malawi, Africa, to Indian immigrant parents. He later moved to the UK and studied law with friend and former Cayman politician, Truman Bodden, at the prestigious Inns of Court.
In the early 1970s he moved to the Cayman Islands and worked with Bodden before establishing his own law firm, C.S. Gill & Co.
Bodden said, “Casey was a good friend and I will always remember him.”
Gill quickly became a part of the Cayman community and was dedicated to helping others through his legal profession and working with various community service groups, said his daughter Anna-Lisa Gill.

“He fell in love with Cayman: the warmth of the people and the kindness of families. He felt inspired and invested in being a part of the country’s development,” said Anna-Lisa.
His other daughter, Brita Gill recalls, “As a member of Rotary, one of the events he loved to participate in every year was making lunch for the seniors on Boxing Day. He would ask us to come with him. I just enjoyed seeing him happy and giving back to others.”
Gill left his mark on the island in various ways; his legal practice worked with all sectors of Cayman, he oversaw the Planning Appeals Tribunal for many years, he was a founding member of the National Trust and was president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 1999.
“Gill was a respected attorney in the business community who contributed to the work of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman over many years,” said Chamber CEO Wil Pineau. “The Chamber would like to express our condolences to his family for their loss. May his soul rest in peace.”
Casey is survived by his adult children Michael, Anna-Lisa, Brita, and youngest son Dillon.
“My father was a warm jovial person. He had razor-sharp cleverness and enduring determination in the face of challenge. Looking on the bright side was his way of life,” said Anna-Lisa.
