Fifteen students from local schools in Cayman got a first-hand look at life on board a Disney Cruise Line ship as part of a Junior Achievement career exploration initiative this month.
The students, along with four chaperones, met with Disney team members, including the iconic Mickey and Minnie, while getting a guided tour of the Disney Treasure ship and lunch on board.
They are taking part in the Chamber of Commerce Junior Achievement Company Programme, which empowers high school students to launch and run their own businesses, with guidance from private-sector advisors.

The visit to the ship was part of the cruise line’s ‘Treasure Tomorrow’ programme, which Disney says was launched “to expand its commitment to creating lasting, positive impacts in the port communities it calls home through the Caribbean and supports career exploration programs for students in each port the Disney Treasure visits”.
“Disney Cruise Line is proud to invest in youth programming that positively impacts the Caribbean communities we visit all year long,” said Joey Gaskins, regional public affairs director in a press release.
“We believe empowering young minds today builds a more resilient tomorrow, driving innovation and opportunity for generations to come.”
The release noted that Disney Cruise Line is sponsoring the Junior Achievement career exploration programme that focuses on maritime and hospitality businesses.
Wil Pineau, chief executive officer of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, who accompanied the students on board the ship, described the day as “both educational and inspiring”.
“This was a unique and memorable opportunity for our JA students to explore potential careers and see the cruise industry up close,” he said.
“We’re grateful to the Disney team for their hospitality and for helping to open our students’ eyes to what’s possible.”
While on board, the students met with chief security officer Ryan Miller, who explained how the cruise line and ports around the world “work together to create a safe, seamless and enjoyable experience for guests”, the release stated.
They also met with assistant cruise director David Hunt, who talked to the students about his career path.
“It means a lot to me to share my journey and experiences with students who are interested in pursuing a career at sea,” Hunt said.
He added, “Before I joined Disney Cruise Line, I didn’t know about all of the incredible opportunities available to me, so being able to help guide and advise the next generation is exciting.”
