People planning to sign up for the annual National Community Enhancement Programme, known as NiCE, have been given an extended deadline to add their names to the list of seasonal workers.

Caymanians aged 18 and older now have until 4pm on Tuesday, 25 Nov., to complete their registration.

In a press release, the Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure said the NiCE programme, scheduled to run from 1–12 Dec., provides short-term paid employment opportunities for Caymanians in support of national beautification, clean-up efforts and community enhancement initiatives.

In the programme, participants gain practical work experience while contributing to the upkeep of public spaces and the overall enhancement of the local environment.

Introduced by the government in 2015, NiCE has grown into a seasonal initiative. While there is no official data available on participants for last year, in December 2023 the programme had just over 500 approved participants.

Jay Ebanks, the minister responsible for the NiCE programme, recently said he wanted it to be a “stepping stone” for full-time opportunities.

The programme offers up to to two weeks of paid work during the December period.
