The annual winter temporary work programme sponsored by government will be carried out in two phases this year, on 9-21 Dec. and 6-18 Jan.

The National Community Enhancement programme, known as NiCE, is open to Caymanians aged 18 and above. It offers a stipend for those who register to work on clean-up projects around Cayman.

Those interested in signing up can register online from today, Friday, 15 Nov., according to an announcement from the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development.

“It is a call to action for Caymanians to come together and make a positive impact on our communities,” said Minister Jay Ebanks in the announcement. “This initiative allows participants to gain valuable work experience while fostering a sense of pride and ownership in the beautiful Cayman Islands.

“I encourage all eligible individuals to join us in this worthwhile effort to improve and maintain our public spaces.”

In December 2023 the NiCE programme had just over 500 approved participants, the Ministry said in response to Compass queries.

Workers selected for the programme are paid for the hours that are worked, at a rate of $10/hr. They are all offered an 8 hour work day, the Ministry said.

The ministry urged those interested in taking part to apply by 21 Nov. to secure their placement in the programme.

Individuals interested can apply online through the official government portal or by scanning the QR code below.
