Thieves targeted a food delivery company based across the street from the George Town Police Station and stole scooters and other items after they smashed security cameras.
The burglars hit the Let’s Eat compound in the basement area of the car park next to Piccadilly Centre on Elgin Avenue two nights in a row, escaping with three scooters, helmets and TV speakers on the first night.
Mark Perez, supervisor of the Let’s Eat delivery team, said, “It will affect the business a little, yes.
“We have 17 to 20 bikes normally. That means two guys having to borrow bikes when delivery people are on their days off.”
Chain link fence cut
The first break-in happened at 2:30am on 17 Feb., the other occurred around midnight the following evening.

The thieves cut through a chain link fence to get into the area where the company’s fleet of delivery bikes was stored and took three.
But Perez said one bike was abandoned outside the secured area, along with two Let’s Eat top boxes ripped off the other bikes.
Round-the-clock security started
The owner of the company, who asked to remain nameless, added that the site had security personnel on duty for much of the day, but that had now been extended to provide around-the-clock coverage after the first break-in.
“Right across from the police station, a security guard [was] on site and they still came back.”

The security guard on duty on the second night alerted police to the break-in and three men were detained in connection with the incident, the owner said.
He added it was possible the scooters had been stolen for parts.
“We live on a small island. Reselling them is going to be very difficult. I’m told they get stripped down for parts.
“The price of scooters have gone up, so there’s more value in stealing them now than there used to be.”
Loss of up to $25,000
The owner said the loss and damage would probably cost between $20,000 and $25,000 and “then there is the impact on the business”.
He added, “Now we are short on scooters, so we’re going to have to get more for those riders who don’t have them.”
He said the business was also forced to close for several hours on both days as police and forensic experts examined the scene.
