Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Burger King on North Church Street restaurant late Friday night.

Officers responded shortly before 10pm on 6 March following reports that two masked men had entered the waterfront restaurant, which is located just north of Arthur’s Way.

Police said one of the suspects was brandishing a firearm while the other carried a knife. The men reportedly went behind the counter, confronted an employee and stole two cellphones before fleeing the scene on bicycles in the direction of Cruz Lane.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Both suspects were described as wearing black hoodies, black pants and masks, along with gloves.

Police searched nearby areas following the robbery and recovered two bicycles believed to have been used by the suspects.

The matter is now under investigation by the George Town Criminal Investigation Department.

The incident follows a string of robberies reported across Grand Cayman since the beginning of the year.

During the early hours of 28 Feb., police responded a incident at the Subway restaurant on Shedden Road in George Town, where a masked man armed with a gun demanded cash before fleeing with a quantity of money.

A day later, shortly after 4am on 1 March, officers responded to a robbery at a convenience store on Mary Street, where a masked man reportedly brandished a firearm and stole cash before fleeing toward Shedden Road. A 52-year-old man was subsequently arrested in relation to that robbery.

Earlier in the year, police dealt with multiple robbery incidents, including two separate cases on 3 Feb. in Bodden Town and George Town involving suspects armed with knives. In one of those incidents, a cashier sustained injuries during an attempted robbery at a store on Walkers Road.

Several aggravated robberies were also reported in January, including an armed hold-up at a gas station on Dorcy Drive involving suspects on a motorcycle and a home invasion on Whitman Seymour Road where three men reportedly forced entry into a residence and stole cash and personal items.

Police have not said whether any of the incidents are believed to be connected
