Police are investigating after an abandoned boat was found Saturday morning on a reef off Austin Connolly Drive in East End.

Officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and the Cayman Islands Coast Guard responded shortly before 6am following reports of the vessel being stranded on the reef.

They carried out coordinated searches of the boat, nearby shoreline and surrounding waters in an effort to locate any injured people or survivors, but no one was found on board or in the area, police said.

Several fuel barrels and life vests believed to be linked to the vessel were recovered along the coastline.

The Coast Guard later removed the vessel from the reef, and police seized it for investigative purposes.
