In dominant fashion, two teams complete a 2-0 series sweep to claim the top spots in the Cayman Islands Basketball Association National Men’s League.
On Sunday, 31 May at the Camana Bay Arts & Recreation Centre, both the Sol Blazers and Pilipinas completed dominant championship runs to capture their respective titles in the Best-of-3 Championship Series.
In Division 1, Sol Blazers faced off against Lions, with the Blazers ultimately securing the trophy with a final score of 75-69.

Leading the charge for the champions was Finals MVP Samuel O’Garro who averaged 18 points and 7 rebounds per game during the finals series.
O’Garro said the victory means a lot to the team, adding, “I feel that we’ve worked really hard. We’ve been together a long time, we trust each other, and Blazers has come a long way.”
“I know we built a dynasty, so adding on to the totality of the wins is everything to us, and I know we look [forward] to just continuing to build, get better and continue to win for as long as we can,” he said.
For O’Garro, winning the MVP award is something he said is “very significant” to him.
“Being a little bit older now and still able to contribute and play at that higher level at 38 years old is something special. Just being able to play that long, to continue to win and show up for my team is all that matters to me. God is good, and He continues to bless me and everybody else on the Blazers team,” he said.

Emerging to the top in Division 2 was Pilipinas who overcame the young U17 Storm squad in a 94-84 victory. This win marked Pilipinas fourth consecutive year of claiming the title.
The Division 2 Finals MVP title went to Kenji Roman who dominated the statistics sheet for Pilipinas with a double-double average of 21 points and 13 rebounds per game over the series.
Looking back on his MVP win, Roman said he views it as “a reflection of our entire team’s effort rather than just my own”.
“Individual accolades are an honour, but they don’t happen without coaches who put me in a position to succeed and teammates who trusted me with the ball. My only goal was to help this team win the championship. Receiving the Finals MVP is just a bonus that I share completely with every [teammate],” Roman said.
For Roman, the overall victory represents the culmination of the team’s “collective dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to a single goal”.
