The Cayman Islands Corsairs pirate crew appeared in the latest episode of the hit television series “Expedition Unknown” on the Discovery Channel this week.
In the episode titled “Sunken City of Pirates” (Season 17, Episode 4), host Josh Gates investigates the discovery of a legendary pirate-era shipwreck believed to be connected to the Golden Age of Caribbean piracy.
As part of the episode, which premiered on Wednesday, 15 July, the Cayman Islands Corsairs made what they described as “a brief but memorable appearance during their high-profile arrival” in Kingston, Jamaica, where they served as the official pirate contingent for the island’s annual Pirates Week celebrations.
The segment captures the Corsairs performing their signature dramatic landing and taking the show’s host, Josh Gates, into their custody.
“It was an incredible honour to represent the Cayman Islands on such an international stage,” said Guglielmo Battaglia, co-founder and managing member of the Cayman Islands Corsairs.
Co-founder Andrea Iallorenzi added, “Even in a short appearance, being part of such a well-known show and sharing our passion for pirate history was a fantastic experience for our team.”
In the show, divers search for a 300-year-old ship wreck amid the ruins of the underwater “pirate city” of Port Royal that sank in a devastating earthquake in 1692.
