A spate of late-night break-ins in North Side has sparked a police warning to secure doors and windows before going to bed or leaving home.
The caution came after three robberies over a short period from 1.30am on Wednesday, two of which involved entry through unlocked doors.
A police spokesman appealed to the public to “ensure that all doors and windows are properly secured before going to bed or leaving their homes”.
The first attempted burglary came when a man said to be dressed in dark clothes entered a home through an insecure door on a balcony leading to a bedroom.
But the occupant, who was still awake, shouted at the intruder, who was scared off and ran in the direction of a nearby beach.
Police were alerted to a similar attempted burglary at another home in the area, but no one was injured and nothing was reported stolen.
Officers were just minutes later called to a nearby home, where the householders were alerted to an intruder by suspicious noises in another part of the home.
The police spokesman said, “They shouted at the suspect, who fled the location. Afterwards, it was found that a quantity of cash and personal items had been taken.”
