A woman remains in hospital this weekend after being attacked by a dog Friday night in West Bay.

A man whose dogs mauled and dragged a woman in the streets outside his Bodden Town home has been ordered to pay a fine of $1,200 or serve a prison sentence of five weeks.

But it is undeniable that dog owners have a legal and societal responsibility to look after their pets, and to make sure they are not a public nuisance or potential threat.

Police and animal control officers did not have to look too far to find loose or unregistered dogs as they patrolled the Rock Hole area Wednesday.

Police said they responded to several “ferocious dog” reports over the weekend around Cayman.

A Bodden Town man who was set upon by two loose dogs last week received injuries to his arms and legs before killing one of the animals, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service reports.

A young girl was seriously injured in an attack by a dog on Birch Avenue in Prospect Wednesday evening. Police said the unnamed 8-year-old child had “a very serious bite to her ear,” as well as several other bites from the “ferocious dog.”
