The Cayman Islands is a successful and well-known offshore financial center, as well as a popular tourism hot spot, but economic growth in recent years has been driven by an entirely different industry: construction.

A female pedestrian was killed in an accident on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, just south of the roundabout by the Cayman Islands Yacht Club on Thursday morning.

On Sunday, the Esterley Tibbetts Highway will be closed from the Butterfield roundabout to the Camana Bay roundabout for one day. Traffic will be diverted to West Bay Road with local access permitted for Lakeside residents.

The widening of the Linford Pierson Highway into George Town faces significant delays due to various legal issues and will not be completed before the next general election in May, Planning Minister Kurt Tibbetts confirmed last week.
