A sense of pride permeated inside the Owen Roberts International Airport Tuesday as family, friends and supporters staged a heroes’ welcome for Cayman’s 2023 Special Olympics World Games athletes.

Cayman swimmer Alec Brice Cox just would not be denied. Cox, who had finished fourth in one event Monday, came back to swim his way to a gold medal in the 800-metre freestyle on Tuesday at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.

Cayman came away with four golds and a bronze in Monday’s competition at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, and two other Cayman athletes finished fourth in their events.
