Keep it clean

In keeping with the country’s ‘clean note’ policy and to ensure that you receive value for your money, all banks, retailers, other money handlers and the public as a whole are being advised that any person presenting badly mutilated banknotes is to be sent to the Currency Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority. Notes that are generally classified as badly mutilated are notes that are heavily soiled, defaced, partially burnt or otherwise missing a portion.

The general rule for exchanging mutilated notes is that at least three-quarters of the note should be present, preferably with visible portions of both serial numbers, for value to be given. The office of the Authority is located in Elizabethan Square, George Town.
