Cayman Islands Olympian Shaune Fraser currently is ranked #1 in the USA in the 200m Freestyle (short course yards – SCY) for boys aged 15-16 years. He is also ranked #2 in the 500m Freestyle, according to the CI Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA).
In the current USA high school swim calendar, athletes have been swimming events in 25 yard pools, referred to as ‘short course yards’. That season will continue for the next month before they switch over to long course meters swimming in 50m Olympic-sized pools.
In addition, Shaune’s11 times from recent SCY meets now rank him #2 in the 200m Butterfly, #2 in the 200m Individual Medley, #4 in the 100m Freestyle, #6 in the 100M Butterfly, and #9 in the 400m Individual Medley.
Shaune’s athletic efforts and high academic marks make him one of the top USA university recruits, and should allow him to attend the university of his choice with full athletic scholarship, said a CIASA spokesperson this week. Shaune is currently swimming at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida and will be returning to Cayman to help the junior national swim team at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships scheduled to take place in Curacao slated for the end of this month.
The Cayman Junior National Swim Team is sponsored by Cable & Wireless and SPEEDO.
