Butterfield Bank’s Rhonda Serrano yesterday presented a CI$12,000 sponsorship cheque to the Cayman National Cultural Foundation to fund the purchase of traditional Caribbean Tassa and Djembe drums and training for four musicians.
The four will ultimately join the Dance Cayman troupe, scheduled to appear in July at Scotland’s Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
Roberta Bostock, marketing director for the foundation, accepted the cheque.
‘We are very grateful to Butterfield Bank for assisting the CNCF in this important and significant project,’ she said. ‘The Cayman Islands has reason to be proud of our talented youth, and we know they will represent us beautifully in Aberdeen, Scotland, this year.
‘We still have a lot of funds to raise but we mustn’t let such an exciting opportunity pass us by.’
The Aberdeen festival is the largest of its kind. Cayman’s appearance is a rare opportunity to represent Caribbean arts and culture.
Butterfield Bank has sponsored the CNCF/Butterfield Bank Partnership For The Arts for four years, and views this latest donation as a natural extension of the company’s support for arts and culture in the Cayman Islands.
