The lobby of the Westin Casuarina Hotel was bursting with underwater life Friday evening featuring sea creatures from the Cayman Islands, and around the world.
The underwater paradise came in the form of the launch of renowned local underwater photographer Cathy Church’s exhibit and the signing of her coffee table book, ‘My underwater Photo Journey’.
The wonderful exhibition takes the viewer into the ethereal underwater abyss of the Cayman Islands and other underwater havens such as the Solomon Islands and Fiji.
Much of the exhibition features difficult to photograph creatures, with interesting explanations on what has been captured on film.
The exhibition, which runs for the month of March at the Westin, is only one of a range of launches that Cathy has planned for both the book and the exhibition.
‘Yes, I’m going to have multiple launches to make up for having lost out after the storm,’ she laughed.
Her coffee table book is filled with lots of underwater scenes of beauty. It also contains a free print of a dive scene at Devil’s Grotto, Grand Cayman.
To round off a wonderful evening of underwater life, a 12 minute multi-media presentation called ‘Descending’, shot during Cathy’s time in Cayman since 1972, was presented on a slide show with singing accompaniment by Lenny Lloyd.
The exhibit prints and coffee table book are available from Cathy’s photo centre and gallery at Sunset House Hotel, South Church Street, George Town. Tel: 9457415.
