In a ceremony held at Cayman Corporate Centre Tuesday, Leader of Government Business McKeeva Bush was presented with a cheque for CI$50,000 by Charles Parchment, head of the Cayman Islands Investment Bureau’s London Office, to be administered by the National Recovery Fund.
The Cayman Islands Hurricane Relief Appeal was a charitable trust set up by DLA Upstream and the CIIB’s London Office in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan through which UK-based friends and well-wishers contributed towards the relief and reconstruction of the Islands.
The trust has now been closed and Tuesday’s ceremony was held to mark the official handover of the funds raised. The proceeds from the fund are earmarked by the directors for the rebuilding of damaged sports facilities.
Mr. Bush, as Minister responsible for the foundation and operation of the CIIB, welcomed the donation from Mr. Parchment, who is also a Director/Secretary of the UK-based charitable trust.
‘These very generous donations demonstrate just how many friends we have in the UK,’ Mr. Bush said. ‘Both private individuals and firms have shown their concern for our Islands by digging deep into their pockets to help our rebuilding efforts. On behalf of the Caymanian people, I would like to offer my sincere and warm thanks for this generosity.’
