Second insurance writ filed

A second write of summons has been filed by the Health Services Authority against another insurance company.

A writ was filed in Grand Court Monday giving British Caymanian Insurance Company Ltd. 14 days to satisfy the claim of $593,461.36 ‘as damages for breach of contract and or breach of statutory duty.’

HSA filed a similar writ last week against Cayman General Insurance Co. Ltd.

‘A writ has been served upon Cayman General Insurance by the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority and this matter has been passed to our lawyers who will be strongly contesting the claim made by the HAS,’ states a press release from Cayman General.

‘We are naturally concerned by the statements made by the HSA and would add that a detailed review of our records indicates that there are no valid and overdue claims outstanding for payment to the HSA at this time. The appropriate evidence to support this position will be submitted to the Courts. CGI will continue to fulfil its obligations under the Health Insurance Law (2003 Revision) and the appropriate Regulations and will continue to pay all valid claims which are properly submitted in accordance with the procedures set out in the Law and the Regulations.’
