Deloitte has announced that Simon Watson, General Manager of Deloitte Property Consulting has recently achieved accreditation as an APC Assessor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
The RICS, one of the most respected global organisations for professionals involved in land, property, construction and environmental issues, recently held a workshop in Miami to train APC Assessors.
All candidates who wish to become members of the RICS and practice as Chartered Surveyors have to undertake the APC, which is an Assessment of Professional Competence. This workshop was the first initiative of the recently formed RICS Caribbean, one of whose main aims is to promote surveying as a valid career choice in the Caribbean and to assist those seeking qualification to do so locally without the need to study or undertake their APC Assessment outside of the region.
For the first time, four Chartered Surveyors were selected for training from the Caribbean, Mr. Watson being the only one from the Cayman Islands. Mr. Watson and the other Assessors are now responsible for assessing candidates’ professional competence, technical skills, ethics and professionalism. Without Caribbean based assessors, candidates have previously had to fly to the UK for their final assessment under the APC.
Commenting on this accreditation, Taron Jackman, Partner, Consulting Services said ‘We would like to congratulate Mr. Watson on this achievement, which adds another level of expertise to our service offering. There are currently two RICS students in the Cayman Islands who can now be assessed locally rather than overseas and by having a Cayman based assessor, we hope to encourage more people to see surveying as a viable career choice.’
Mr. Watson is a Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a founding Board member of RICS Caribbean, with 20 years experience as a property professional, including 10 years in the Cayman Islands. Deloitte Property Consulting Services provide a comprehensive range of services including property management, project and construction management, contract and financial monitoring of projects, valuations, quantity surveying and insurance claims adjusting services.
