Le Bleu rolls to seventh win

The first five Le Bleu Drinkers’ batters scored in the first inning, setting the pace for a convincing 14-2 victory over KPMG B in co-ed softball at the Field of Dreams last Sunday.

Le Bleu, 7-1, got good production from the entire line-up, as 10 different players scored runs.

‘This was one of our best overall performances this season,’ said Le Bleu coach Alan Markoff.

‘We hit well, we ran the bases well, we fielded well and we had tremendous team spirit from even before the game started.’

Drinkers’ rover Rachel Smyth took credit for the win.

‘I sent everyone an e-mail saying we play much better when we drink a lot of ultra-pure Le Bleu drinking water before and during the game,’ she said.

‘Obviously, everyone listened to me. I told them let’s do it and they did it.’

Ms. Smyth had one of two hits by the women Drinkers, with Emily Schutt adding another.

Both women scored after their hits. ‘The girls were awesome today,’ said third baseman Mark Wallace. ‘Then again, I think girls are awesome every day.’

Le Bleu was playing without starting right fielder Pat Haag, who away touring a cheese factory in Wisconsin.

‘He better not bring back any of that smelly Limburger stuff,’ said catcher Laine Smyth.

JB Lovinggood made the best of his rare opportunity to play right field, crushing a home run and a double. He also tapped a ground out to the first basewoman with the bases loaded on his third at-bat.

‘I was tired by that point,’ he said.

Stephen Ebanks had an RBI double in the first inning, but fouled out to the catcher with a runner on third in the fifth.

‘I think it was a knuckleball that I hit,’ he said. ‘I don’t know how that girl caught it with all the spin it had on it.’

The game also featured an inside-the-park home run on errors by Richard Maragh.

‘I had no idea what was going on,’ said Mr. Maragh. ‘They kept yelling ‘run, Richard, run’ from the bench, so I kept running.’
