To set the pace and ready young Cayman players for league competition, CIFA’s annual Youth Football Rally has been scheduled to kick-off on Saturday, 4 June, between 8am and 6pm at the T.E. McField ‘Annex’ Football Field in George Town.
The event, consisting of a full day of football, parades, contests and awards, will open with the Cayman National Song along with messages of encouragement from the Minister of Sports and CIFA President Jeffrey Webb.
The rally is open to all players between the ages of 10 and 17.
Teams from schools, clubs and other interested individuals or organizations who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so immediately.
The rally has been organized as a precursor to the Under 12 Youth Football Program scheduled for kickoff later this year. The league will introduce international concepts of football to under-12 players.
National Coach Marcos Tinoco will head the organization for the league. He says he will focus on such areas as free kicks, off-side and basic tactical positioning.
The league will consist of a tournament system, 11 teams will follow official FIFA regulations and will battle through several rounds to a semi-final playoff involving the top four teams.
Under-12 league matches will run 15 minutes at the Ed Bush Stadium, Truman Bodden Sports Complex and the T.E. McField ‘Annex’ Football Field. Boys and girls born in 1994 and after are welcome to participate.
For more information regarding registration for either the rally or the Under 12 League, contact Marcos Tinoco in the CIFA office at 949-5775 or [email protected] .
