John A. Cumber doubles

John A. Cumber defied the odds and did the double in this year’s Primary School Football League Competition.

The A Team are joint champions with Georgetown Primary, whom they easily brushed aside 3 – 1 in the decisive match of the season.

West Bay A Team for the past four years owes much of their success not only to their dedication, but also to the astute coaching of Ruel Smith, whose record 40 wins, one loss and seven draws.

Ironically, Mr. Smith’s loss occurred when he was away at a conference earlier this year.

This year’s team revolved around Shalisa Barnet, a shrewd captain and excellent defender; Tarrick Gardener, a persistent attacker; utility player Jonassi Swaby; and the excellent, consistent work of Michael Pouchie in front of the uprights.

The cup will be retired to the trophy room in West Bay after the third consecutive win by the lads from the West.

The B Team under the guidance of Steven Coles was even more lethal, destroying everyone in their path.

Tireless captain Richard Clarke who was prepared to play every position, was a source of inspiration. Oliver Smith demonstrated great field vision and was a superb passer, finding the nets in every game.

Kingsley Firth made some tremendous runs on the left side, finishing with some incisive passes, usually finding an attacker first.

Goalkeeper Moses Ebanks was the most improved player as the season progressed, denying opponent’s goals with some tremendous saves.
