Three sent to Grand Court for robbery

Two men and one woman were committed to stand trial in Grand Court following preliminary inquiries into charges of robbery and burglary.

A fourth person had charges against him discontinued.

Magistrate Nova Hall committed Allen Junior Hurlston and Latecia Tonna Jarrett for robbery at a West Bay Road hotel on 24 February. Reported stolen was CI$482 and US$10.

Hurlston and Jarrett were also committed for robbery of an individual at the beach on 17 March. They are alleged to have used force to steal a gym bag with contents valued at $100.

Jarrett and Charles Manley Ebanks are charged with robbery at a George Town grocery store on 7 March. They are accused of using force to steal a cash register valued at $1,800 and cash totalling $2,000.

Jarrett by herself was committed on charges of burglary at a West Bay Road hotel and aggravated burglary at a private residence. Both incidents occurred in February.

Hurlston by himself was charged with aggravated burglary at a George Town bar and restaurant on 3 March.

Crown Counsel Toyin Salako told the court that the Crown was discontinuing against Roger Conrad Parchment at this stage. If new evidence comes to light, he maybe charged, Ms Salako advised.

Defence Attorney James Austin-Smith said it was unfortunate that Parchment had to come back to court four times for the preliminary inquiry. He said it was abundantly clear since April that there was no case against Parchment.

The matter had caused public funds to be wasted, not to mention the defendant’s time as well as the restrictions of conditional bail.

The three defendants going to Grand Court had their matters set for mention at the opening of the next session, 6 July. They are represented by Attorneys John Furniss, David McGrath and Margetta Facey-Clarke.
