Additional birthday honour

Added to the list of Caymanians named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this year is Jennifer P. Dilbert, who has been made a Member of the British Empire.

Mrs. Dilbert, who has served as Cayman Islands Government Representative in the United Kingdom since 2000, has engaged in a civil service-linked career since 1979.

Because Mrs. Dilbert was nominated in the UK, news of her award arrived only after the release of the list of other local recipients.

She first represented her country internationally as Miss Cayman Islands 1979-80.

Having begun work in the financial industry, she become Inspector of Banks and Trusts. After a period in the private sector, she took up the London post.

Lord Davies of Coity CBE, Chairman of the Cayman Islands All Party Parliamentary Group, praised Mrs. Dilbert’s accomplishments.

‘This award is appropriate recognition of Mrs. Dilbert’s tireless work representing the Cayman Islands in the UK,’ he said. ‘The past few years have seen many different challenges for the Cayman Islands, not least Hurricane Ivan and the Savings Tax Directive.

‘Mrs. Dilbert and her team have ably represented and argued for the interests of the Cayman Islands through some very tough times.’

The Chairman of the Friends of Cayman and former Governor John Owen echoed Lord Davies’s sentiments.

‘I am delighted that Mrs. Jennifer Dilbert’s work and achievements as the Cayman Islands Government Representative in London have been recognised with the award of MBE. The Friends of Cayman look forward to continuing to work with Mrs. Dilbert in the promotion of the interests of the people of the Cayman Islands in the United Kingdom.’

Mrs. Dilbert is the daughter of Vernon and Francine Jackson. She is married to Leonard Dilbert and the couple has two daughters, Rita and Juliette.
