The wheels on their new trailer homes may not be rolling any time soon but the wheel of fortune is turning for some of Cayman’s worst hurricane-hit families.
After Hurricane Ivan struck last September, more than 80 of the mobile homes were specially imported and earmarked for the country’s post-hurricane needy.
And among the first to benefit from being able to move into one of the new mobile homes are the Redden family.
Sacha Redden, husband Rosewell and children, six-year-old Ezra and three-year-old Roseanna, are among the first families to have moved in to one of the new homes on the Bodden Town site.
The family were living in North Side when the storm struck and destroyed their home.
They applied for help and managed to get one of the trailer homes in Bodden Town, where Mrs. Redden grew up.
‘We think it’s wonderful to be here. We feel blessed,’ says a grateful Mrs. Redden.
The 29-year-old also expresses her thanks to Twyla Vargas of the Cayman Islands Recovery Operations Temporary Housing Office, who she describes as a ‘wonderful woman.’
Mrs. Redden says she is also grateful to AT&T for supplying a phone.
