It was a team win, for sure, but in the end it all came down to the hands of Judy Rivers. The Future FC goalkeeper was consistently good throughout 90 minutes of regulation time and 20 minutes of overtime play. But, after Future and Scholars were still scoreless, the game went to a penalty shootout and it was then that Rivers rose up to shine brightest.
Scholars also had an excellent goalkeeper so nothing was certain.
Judging the ball brilliantly, Rivers got her hands on enough shots to lift her team to its biggest win.
Coached by Bernie Bush, the West Bay club is committed to the future and has many teens-even a pre-teen-on its roster. This, Bush believes, means they will only get better in the seasons to come.
Scholars came so close to the crown, playing an aggressive and smart game, but like Future, they were unable to score the one goal that would have win it for them in regulation or overtime.
