At 6.45pm Wednesday officers from RCIPS, Drug Task Force intercepted a 32-foot Jamaican canoe about six miles off East End, which contained approximately 300 pounds of vegetable matter resembling ganja.
Following a brief chase, officers from DTF vessel Cayman Protecto’ boarded the canoe and arrested two Caymanian males, 42 years and 26 years and one Jamaican male, 31years of age.
The men were arrested for importation and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
Acting Chief Inspector Shaun Ebanks of DTF said ‘this interception came about as a result of information being passed on from an aircraft flying in the Cayman area, spotting the canoe and Cayman Protector being on marine patrol nearby’.
Mr. Ebanks commended his officers for a job well done and stressed the importance of resources being made available for the Island’s border security to prevent illegal drugs and firearms reaching our streets.
The accused persons remain in police custody while investigations continue. Further arrest has not been ruled out.
