Water Authority explains outage

The Water Authority extends its thanks and appreciation to all customers for their patience and understanding when service was ceased for several hours during the passing of hurricane Emily.

The Authority also wishes to apologise for the short notice.

The temporary disruption of water distribution service was necessary as heavy wave action was predicted along the south side of the island, posing a potential serious threat to the pipelines on the coast. These areas are more vulnerable after hurricane Ivan.

The Authority would like to remind everyone that, in the event of a major hurricane, it might be necessary for the Authority to temporarily cease service in order to protect the water distribution system.

The Authority also thanks its staff for their hard work during the preparations and for quickly restoring services after the storm.
