Deutsche Bank has renewed its CI$14,500 sponsorship of an arts intern at the National Gallery for the second year, according to a Government Information Services (GIS) press release.
The funding will allow a young Caymanian to gain experience in the arts before beginning further education.
The 2005/6 intern Letitia Davis was chosen from five applicants. A recent graduate of Dudley’s Beauty College (DBC) in North Carolina where she received a certificate in Cosmetology, Miss Davis intends to attend courses in the near future to fine-tune her skills in make-up artistry. At the end of her National Gallery internship she hopes to start a fashion or interior design degree.
While attending DBC, Letitia was also invited to be a school representative at the annual Martin Luther King Day Parade, and was a makeup demonstration artist at the Charlotte Convention Centre.
Congratulating the intern, Gallery director Nancy Barnard stated, ‘The business and art skills experiences to be gained from a year at the Gallery will be second to none, and provide another opportunity for a young Caymanian to enter the arts segment of the workforce.’
As an international group, Deutsche Bank is committed to the arts in each of their jurisdictions. Deutsche Bank Cayman’s marketing manager Sophie Ebanks explained: ‘Education and the arts have long been a focus of Deutsche Bank, and there is no better way to achieve these two objectives than through arts education for young Caymanians. We were privileged to be a part of this programme last year, and are delighted to again give our support.’
