Perps still on the lam

Police are still looking for the two men who last week terrified two women and five children and sent a security scare through Government’s top echelon.

Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Ennis told the Caymanian Compass yesterday that police are following several leads.

Mr. Ennis said he is concerned about the strain the investigation is putting on the already stretched police resources.

‘But I was pleased by the briefing I had with staff this morning and I was encouraged by their commitment and resolve,’ he said.

As part of efforts to track down the two raiders who struck at a home in Patrick’s Island, the RCIP has released a photograph of the green Suzuki Vitara used in the getaway.

It was about 4pm last Thursday that two gun-toting intruders forced their way into the house.

The two women were tied up and their faces were covered with pillowcases.

When the husband of one of the women returned home he was overpowered, tied up and also had a pillowcase put over his head.

Watches and gold chains were taken from the victims before the robbers made their getaway in the family car, the Suzuki, which was later found abandoned in the Prospect area.

Police later said there is evidence to suspect the offenders had intended to rob a high ranking government official living nearby.

And that led to intense police activity and the setting up of an incident room at George Town Police Station with a dedicated team of 24 detectives.

It also resulted in a top level press conference featuring Governor Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy being held on Friday at which Chief Secretary George McCarthy said security was being provided to all members of the Cabinet.

Police, who are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, point out that the Suzuki may have gone elsewhere on the island before it was abandoned.

They are appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicle between 5pm on Thursday and 8am on Friday to contact them.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Crime Stoppers on 800 TIPS (8477) or the incident room on 244-3053.

‘This is a particularly wicked crime where five young children and two mothers were put through a terrifying ordeal,’ said Superintendent Kenrick Hall.

‘We need to arrest these vicious and violent criminals,’ he stressed.
