It took the Leo Club of Grand Cayman over four hours on Saturday night to crown the winning Miss Teen 2005 – 16-year-old Kamala Murugesu.
Although a well put together show, the pageant was just too long, with too many support acts; and not enough fans to keep the audience cool.
Nevertheless the girls were stunning and received big rounds of applause from audience members for their participation.
Miss Teen winner, Kamala Murugesu, wearing a stunning strapless light blue evening dress, dazzled the judges to become the pick of the night.
She also captured the titles of Best in Gown, Miss Photogenic, Best In Costume, Academic Excellence and tied for the Miss Personality title with second runner-up Marcia Borden.
Kamala Murugesu is from West Bay and was sponsored by Style 96.5FM.
Just as pretty was first runner-up Sascha McLaughlin wearing a light-pink evening gown. Sascha, sponsored by Reflections, won the Community Spirit Award.
Sixteen-year-old Marcia Borden, sponsored by Mike’s Ice and Alba electrical, was crowned second-runner-up. She won the titles of Most Improved, Most Talented, and tied for Miss Personality title with Kamala Murugesu.
Also very impressive on stage was 17-year-old Christy Bragg, sponsored by Americo; 17-year-old Patricia Plummer, sponsored by Pitbull Energy Drink and 15-year-old Tracy Barnes, sponsored by Crusader International.
Christy Braggs, who won the Best Smile title, got herself lots of cheers for her high energy dance routine in the talent section of the competition.
In the costume line-up constants represented various countries such as Cuba, Jamaica, Malaysia, China and Nicaragua.
The show began with the National Anthem sung by Jamesette Anglin and opening remarks from Leo president Jermain Sharpe. These were followed by introductions of contestants, master of ceremonies, compere, .judges, and talliors and Cayman pageant royalty.
Entertainment for the night was provided by CBR Boys, Main Source, Blackface, Black FX, Dillon Myles, Fresh Boys, Diandra, a Miss Teen serenade, contestants in swimwear costume, talent and evening wear, closing remarks from the Leo Chairperson and finally the announcement of winners, which the comperes held on to a bit too long for impact.
