Taxi communication greatly improved

Taxi passengers fare better in Cayman these days thanks to improved communications, says taxi company owner Locksley Gould.

‘Coming out of the 70s into the 80s, there was no communication in taxi cabs,’ says Mr. Gould of Ace Nice Taxi and Tour Service.

‘If a passenger left something in a taxi, the taxi driver would take that item to the police station.

‘Three months later the driver would check back at the station to learn that the item was never picked up due to lack of communication,’ he says.

Mr. Gould, who has been in the taxi business for many years, began to look into radio communication for the vehicles and became something of a pioneer of such communication in Cayman.

‘When things get left in the cabs today, folks have the privilege to call right back and get their lost item dropped off right away,’ he says.

Mr. Gould – who says the most commonly left items in taxis are cell phones – states he is also proud that improved communications mean that the other valuable articles and gifts and even large amounts of cash found in cabs can be readily returned.
