Two attorneys from Canada have joined the Cayman office of Appleby Spurling Hunter as associates.
Ms Litza Anderson and Mr. Christopher Johnston previously practised with well-known law firms in Toronto, according to a release from ASH.
The attorneys were admitted to the Cayman Islands Bar in a formal ceremony presided over by Mr. Justice Alexander Henderson.
Ms Anderson joins the firm’s Trust Practice Group, headed by Carlos de Serpa Pimentel, and brings with her valuable experience in all aspects of non-contentious trust matters.
She was admitted to practice in Ontario, Canada in 2002 and practised there for three years with Donahue LLP and McMillan Binch LLP prior to joining Appleby Spurling Hunter.
Excited about her new position, Ms Anderson said, ‘I am pleased to be joining a rapidly expanding Trust Practice Group in such an internationally recognised offshore law firm. I look forward to contributing to the legal and non-legal community as I make the Cayman Islands my home.’
Welcoming Litza to the firm, Carlos de Serpa Pimentel, Counsel and Local Trust Practice Group Head, said he was delighted that an attorney of Litza’s high calibre had joined the Trust Group.
‘In a short space of time Litza has already proved a valuable addition to the firm, first and foremost by providing an excellent service to our clients, who include some of the most prominent trust companies present in the Cayman Islands.’
Mr. Johnson was admitted to practice in Ontario, Canada in 2001. He joins Appleby Spurling Hunter’s long-established Litigation Practice Group, having previously worked at WeirFoulds LLP for four years. His areas of expertise include local litigation, insolvency, and property and planning law disputes.
Upon arrival to the firm, Mr. Johnston commented, ‘I feel very fortunate to have joined a leading law firm with a strong international presence and a long history of service in the Cayman Islands.
‘I also feel fortunate to be practising at such a prestigious Bar, amongst such first-rate attorneys, with the support of a diverse and professional staff. I hope to repay my good fortune with a long and prosperous future of service to the Cayman Islands, to the Court, to my clients and to Appleby Spurling Hunter.’
Commenting on Christopher’s arrival, Partner Nick Joseph said, ‘I am pleased to welcome Chris to the firm. His knowledge and expertise are a valuable addition to our already well established and rapidly expanding Litigation Practice.’
