Health fair a hit

Hundreds of people turned up for the fourth-annual Community Health Fair, which was sponsored by the Health Ministries Department of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, president of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, formally opened the fair, which was held Sunday on the grounds of Cayman Academy.

‘Wholeness and health have been an emphasis of the Seventh-day Adventist Church from the 1860s when the church began,’ he said.

‘The Bible reminds us that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we have been entrusted with the privilege of maintaining and improving our spiritual, mental, social and physical health. Health Ministries promotes good health and the prevention of ill health to help achieve this goal of wholeness.’

Dr. Thompson commended Mrs. Annie Kay Price, Health Ministries Director, CICSDA, for coordinating the fair.

The special feature of the fair was a four-hour vegan cooking class conducted by Herbert and Gwen Shorter, health educators from New York.

The Shorters have authored 10 books and have 30 years of experience in health education. They were also the featured presenters during a special church service at the George Town Adventist Church on Sunday. The Shorters presented a mini concert to conclude the service.
