Braves battle to Philippine basketball crown

The Digicel Basketball Court off Eastern Avenue was filled with proud basketball enthusiasts this past Sunday, as fans came out to support their favorite teams in the Philippine Amateur Basketball League championship tournament.

Excitement and anticipation filled the air as the Mindanao Braves and Antipolo Cingular battled for the championship title.

As the challenging game progressed into the fourth quarter the score was tied at 82-82. Eager fans watched closely from the edge of their seats as both teams played vigorously for the championship title.

With just one minute left in the game the Braves’ Christian Ferrer managed to secure four more points for his team leading the Mindanao Braves to a 86-82 victory over Cingular.

Digicel, proud sponsors of the Philippine Basketball League, awarded trophies and Digicel prize packs to the champions and 1st runner-up team. In addition, Braves MVP Christian Ferrer received a Motorola V555 compliments of Digicel.

Committee member and treasurer of the PABL Mr. Noel Gonzales said, ‘We are very pleased with the turnout of the tournament, all teams displayed great sportsmanship and we feel that we have raised the level of competition for our team players.

‘We are now in the process of selecting the best players from the PABL league to play in the Digicel/Wendy’s Men’s League organized by the Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA). We would like to thank all team sponsors, Digicel for league sponsorship and for trophies and prizes, Wendy’s, the Filipino community for their continued support and CIBA, especially to Coach Voot O’Garro and the referees.’ Mr. Gonzales added.
