Cayman Airways has introducing a fuel surcharge of US$10 one way and US$20 round trip for all Cayman Airways and Cayman Airways Express flights between Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands. The surcharge came into effect 6 October.
‘We have seen the price of fuel almost triple over the past several years to where it is now the largest single expense category for the airline,’ Mike Adam, President and CEO of Cayman Airways, said in a press release.
‘While we have implemented several fare increases and fuel surcharges on all of our US routes as well as the Jamaica and Havana routes over the past year, we tried to avoid any increases on our domestic services. We simply have no choice in the matter as we must reduce the losses we incur daily as a result of the fuel prices.’
The release reads, ‘This increase will raise the price of a round trip Express flight to US$119, plus tax, which still represents a significant savings over the prices in effect for round trip domestic flights prior to the start-up of the Cayman Airways Express service.’
