Officials on Cayman Brac reported that Tuesday a small boat with six Cuban men on board arrived there, at 6am.
The vessel, described as a 16-foot fibreglass boat with a diesel engine, stopped at Channel Dock on the south side of the island.
One of the boat’s occupants initially requested that he be returned to Cuba, but changed his mind when advised of the normal arrangements and timescales for repatriating Cuban nationals. He opted instead to continue on and the Cubans subsequently departed Cayman Brac shortly thereafter, at 7:15 am.
Officials escorted the vessel several miles off shore and reported that boat was last seen at 9:45 am.
