‘I have to win this fight’

The most accomplished boxer this country has ever produced – Charles Whittaker – steps into the ring here on Saturday night.

And returning to Cayman a few days ago after weeks of training in Florida, ‘Killa’ Whittaker is confident of an impressive win.

Whittaker is set to taken on Servando Perales at Kings Sports Centre in a 10 round bout for the Caribbean Junior Middle-weight Championship title.

‘I feel good and I am looking forward to the fight on Saturday,’ said Whittaker.

‘I am absolutely confident. I have to win this fight and I am extremely motivated for it,’ he told the Caymanian Compass.

‘Beating him means moving up the rankings,’ he added.

‘I am currently ranked 32 in the world. Winning this fight will push me up another couple of rungs on the ladder and a step closer to a world title shot.

‘Getting a chance at the big prizes is something that I have been striving for all my life,’ he said.

‘The training has gone well. I would like to have done more but I have had to deal with organising a lot of things,’ said Whittaker.

Whittaker, who has a record of 25 wins, 12 losses and 15 KOs, has fought in Cayman several times before and his most recent fight was here last September.

‘There is going to be some very good action on Saturday night,’ Whittaker’s agent, Raul Alvarez said in a press re-lease.

‘Both fighters are convinced they are going to win the belt. So the audience is in for a spectacular event,’ he said.

‘This is Charles’s third try for a WBC title. He has lost twice on points mainly because the fight was in his opponent’s back yard. Charles is not going to let this opportunity slip by,’ he added.

The under card, according to the release, sees Derrick Moon take on Brant Skyler and Swedish champion Benjamin Kalinovic up against Arnold Hill.

The officials are said to be Will Connors and Donie Anglin with judges Dale Ramoon, Brandon Lyons and Timmy Ebanks.

The doors open at 6:30pm and the first bell is at 8pm
