The Cayman Islands Open Tennis Championship Tournament is back with vengeance! Although the Cayman Islands Open Tournament has had a long history, dating back since 1974, this will be the first Open Tennis Tournament in Grand Cayman to offer prize money in over a decade. This year’s Open will offer US$5,000 worth of prize money for the winners and runners-up for all of the men’s and women’s singles divisions. There will be three divisions in this year’s tournament, the open, 40 year-old and over division, and a 55 year old and over division. There will also be singles, doubles and mixed doubles offered in the three divisions. Since this is an Open Championship all residents and visitors of the Island are welcome to participate in this tournament. Entry forms have also been sent to Miami, Tampa, Houston and Jamaica in hopes to attract more visitors to the Island and compete in the tournament.
The Cayman Islands Tennis Club thanked the sponsor of this tournament. The sponsor is responsible for all of the prize money that is being offered in hopes to attract a high level of competition for this years’ tournament.
The tournament is underway now and runs through December 3rd. There should be a high level of competition in the men’s open division with some of the past winners of the Championship expected to enter the Tournament. Both the men’s and women’s open division will be played during the evening to enable everyone to come out and watch some great and exciting tennis at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club.
