CRFU “X-mas Scrumble” Golf Tournament

CRFU has announced the Third Annual CRFU ‘X-mas Scrumble’ Golf Tournament to be held at the Britannia Golf Course on Saturday December 10, 2005.

The Tournament will be a Fourball Scramble format over the Britannia Executive Course with a Shotgun Starts at 8 am and 1pm with the usual Putting Competition, ‘Closest to the Pin’, ‘Longest drive’ and a Hole-in-One Competition.

The purpose of this Tournament is to raise money towards the further development of the Junior Rugby Programs that have proven to be such a tremendous success in recent years. The Junior Rugby Program now has over 4,000 youth participants all funded by CRFU with assistance from the CI Government, the International Rugby Board and private companies.

The CRFU has further sponsored the formation of the Cayman Rugby Football Academy that is currently aimed at training boys aged between 15 to 18 to elite levels of athleticism.

Women’s Rugby has also been heavily introduced throughout the school system with girls playing in 5 out of the 8 schools and loving the sport.

In spite of Hurricane Ivan and the damage wrought to the clubhouse, grounds, and training equipment the Junior Rugby Program has gone from strength to strength thanks to the efforts of Richard Adams, CRFU’s Director of Rugby, the CRFU Development Officers that work in the schools and an army of volunteers.

The cost of all this development work is in excess of CI$ 100,000 per year and while many generous sponsors have come forward CRFU still finances the lions share of these expenses. Given the previous success of the tournament (and the only tournament held post Ivan last year), organisers say sponsors will gain great exposure and will also be contributing to youth development.
