Curves active for cancer

The Curves fitness club, with the help of its new members, recently donated $1,800 to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

During October, the club’s owners, Diane Corich and Robert Musselwhite, waived the joining fee and instead collected a minimum $50 donation from each new member for the cancer society.

Every year, US-based Curves International encourages its franchises worldwide to raise funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ms Corich explained.

‘Curves International asks its clubs to donate money during a one-week period. Bob and I decided to take two weeks,’ she said.

Christine Sanders, general manager and education officer at the society, expressed appreciation for the fundraising effort.

‘It’s really phenomenal. I’d like to thank Curves for taking the initiative to support the society in this way. We will be putting the money towards a very meaningful breast cancer initiative,’ she said.

Ms Sanders stressed the importance of staying active.

‘Physical activity is one of the ways to decrease the risk of cancer and it’s good to see people out there exercising,’ she said.
