Pirates Den Pub, known locally as PD’s, closed its location at the Marquee Plaza recently, but owner Colin Luke said the popular local hangout will reopen in its original location at the Galleria Plaza around the third week of January.
‘We closed the Marquee location about two weeks ago,’ Mr. Luke said. ‘The existing leaseholder wanted to take the space back over.’
The Marquee location was only a temporary solution while Hurricane Ivan damage to the Galleria was repaired, he said.
Mr. Luke said PD’s would be ‘new and improved’ when it reopens.
‘It will be a little more up market than it used to be, with a new style, quietly stated,’ he said. ‘But it will continue to be a great watering spot with decent and economically priced dishes.’
The most popular PD’s menu items would remain, Mr. Luke said.
‘We’ll have is what was best from PD’s along with what was best from what used to be the West Bay Polo Club,’ he said.
Mr. Luke was unsure if features like PD’s electronic trivia game would return.
‘We’ll have to see,’ he said. ‘We want to recapture our regulars.’
Mr. Luke said there will be a questionnaire given to patrons for the first few weeks after PD’s reopens to see what customers want.
When PD’s does reopen at the Galleria, the establishment will have a new manager.
Mr. Luke confirmed Al Young, the previous manager for many years, was not longer with the company and had left the island. Mr. Luke could not say whether Mr. Young would return to Grand Cayman.
Mr. Luke did not want to discuss the rumours concerning Mr. Young’s departure from the company.
‘I have no grist for that particular mill,’ he said.
The restaurant will recruit staff at the beginning of the year, Mr. Luke said.
