The 6th Annual Cayman Islands Association recently held its Pairs Championships event at the Britannia Golf Course.
The event was a major success, being the first fully sold out CIGA event since Hurricane Ivan, with 48 players competing over 18 holes. Experienced favourites Robert Chilman and Trent Riggins blazed the front nine holes, having 2 birdies and two eagles for a 29. Rookies,
Marcus Stafford and Gareth Thacker, playing in their first competitive event, matched the best front 9 score with four birdies and an eagle, also scoring 29 at the halfway mark. The back nine saw the pressure get to Riggins and Chilman who fell off the pace scoring one over par 36, giving them a fourth placed finish overall. Robert Woods and Richard Jones narrowly edged out Ross McDonough and Brian Eccles for second place when McDonough missed a short putt on the final hole. Stafford and Thacker held form to complete the back nine in 31 and secure victory by three strokes. Remarkably neither player broke 100 individually, but in the better ball format they managed to ‘Ham and Egg’ their way to glory.
The Association thanked Cayman Airways and Cayman Imports for sponsoring the event.
