Local radio station HOT 104.1 FM is launching a new interactive talk show.
Straight Talk will hit the airwaves 9 January, hosted by new air personality Sandra Catron The show will air daily weekdays from 5pm to 7pm, said a press release from the radio station.
Straight Talk will cater to a broad audience of the Cayman community, providing listeners with informative and stimulating conversation on a broad range of topics including news, community activities, politics, culture as well as more personal topics, such as money matters, spiritual issues, and health concerns.
As a Caymanian and an active member of the island’s community, Mrs. Catron, has an in-depth knowledge of local issues. She also has an impressive range of experience in politics, community work and academia on and off the island, making her an exceptional candidate to host the show, the release said.
Mrs. Catron spent 15 years in the Tampa region in Florida, where she attended school and achieved a degree in Professional and Technical Writing from the University of South Florida. During this time, she was involved in numerous extracurricular activities, ranging from volunteer work for local nursing homes to being an active member of the student debating team, the Black Student Union and the Caribbean Student Association.
Mrs. Catron returned to the Cayman Islands in 1996 and continued to participate in local activities, such as the Junior Achievement student program, the Cayman Islands Student Association and the Youth Flex Radio Show, to name a few.
On the local political front, Mrs. Cantron has been involved in the Cayman Island’s People’s Progressive Movement since its inception as a founding member and has served as the first Chairman of the People For Referendum group. She also served as Deputy Chairperson for the PPM Bodden Town District Committee.
Mrs. Catron’s keen interest in politics led her to do a second degree in Law at the Cayman Islands Law School which she graduated from in 2000 and she is currently completing a Masters program in Public Administration.
