Alex Alexander Memorial rugby action Saturday

The Alex Alexander Memorial Trophy, sponsored by Waterford Private Residence Club, continues through it’s round-two matches this Saturday, 4pm at in South Sound. The as yet unbeaten Don Fosters Iguanas take on the reigning champions the BPC Buccaneers. The Iguanas are currently three points clear of the Buccaneers at the top of the table so a win by the Buccaneers would close that gap and give the Buccaneers the lead if they can grab a bonus point by scoring four or more tries in the doing.

The Iguanas will rely on their superior speed and handling capabilities in the back line while the Buccaneers will do all they can to keep the ball in their immense forward pack and deny the Iguanas a chance to move the ball wide.

Top points scorer Chris Bunce of the Iguanas will be looking to increase his tally from Stand off on Saturday while the Buccaneers front Row of Stabler, Grasby and Stewart will look to dominate scrummage and tight play and make sure Bunce has scant opportunity to get his dynamic hands on the ball.

Perhaps the most interesting battle of the day however will be played out between the two back rows where National Team Captain Brad Cowdroy of the Buccaneers will look to stifle the play of Jon Rew and Rob Aspinal who complete a huge amount of work during the match, it’s probably safe to say that, whatever happens, round 2 of the Alex Alexander memorial Trophy will produce excellent and entertaining rugby this week to match that of the famous Storm win last week.
